Open Call for applications to Modern Fuel Board of Directors

Modern Fuel is seeking candidates who are passionate about contemporary visual, time-based and interdisciplinary arts, and are excited to offer leadership and insight as members of the Board of Directors. Volunteering with the Board offers the opportunity to gain understanding and experience with an artist-run centre, as well as various occasions to engage critically and socially with the arts community in Kingston. Board positions are for 2 year terms, with the exception of the student position of 1 year.

The role of board members is to provide active leadership, stewardship, direction, and assistance to Modern Fuel Artist Run Centre in accordance with Modern Fuel’s mission and mandate.

In addition to the other board officers positions we have available, we need a student representative. This s a unique opportunity within the board structure. It allows us to foster relationships with post secondary arts oriented institutions and gives students opportunities to see the world of art from an industry perspective.

Roles and Responsibility of Board Members:

+ All members of the Board of Directors must be members of Modern Fuel in good standing as per the Modern Fuel bylaws.

+ Board members are elected by members at the Annual General Meeting, and serve a two-year term. The Board, by majority vote, may fill vacancies that occur between AGMs due to resignation or removal from office of elected directors. Board members cannot serve more than three consecutive terms.

+ Attending board meetings. They are currently held once a month on the third Wednesday, starting at 7 pm. Board Members should read the material provided before each meeting (minutes, agenda), and pass on any items to be added to the agenda to the Secretary in a timely manner. According to the bylaws, board members who miss three consecutive board meetings shall be deemed to have resigned from office.

+ Board members are asked to sit on two committees. Time commitment can fluctuate between approximately 5-15 hours/month.

+ Volunteering in at least one aspect of fundraising (as needed by the committee), and receiving charity bingo training.

+Participating in at least four events a year (openings, workshops, screenings) is encouraged.

+ Preparing for and attending the Annual General Meeting.

We would like to share this poster for a June 7th recital in Kingston featuring Nils Brown and organist / pianist Matthew Larkin, sponsored by Olivea Restaurant, the Chef of which is Stev George. All of these men grew up in Kingston!

A hip after-party at Olivea follows the show. Nils will bring his guitar and continue to sing your favourite Neapolitan and Venetian songs long into the evening. The food at Olivea is just extraordinary! (Don’t forget to reserve – 613.547.5483.)
